Into the Deep

complete and utter silence,
under the folds, of
a transparent blue asylum.
Unlike the surface,
forever wailing for its loss
the underworld quietly strides,
for it gains from the other’s loss.
Young and angry,
at times, seeking revenge
while the old deep bottom
skillfully mean and patient.
Waiting for its turn rising,
quietly with the tide
the mindless trying to learn,
how to fight the good fight.
Quietly punishing the sails
the deep blue belly grumbles,
conspiring with the Gods
it spins and swirls and whirls,
the sailors to their lost brothers.
The surface, luminous and hot
learning with time and depth
the art of being strong, mean and patient
and just and wise and reticent.
